  • Dr. Liyuan CHEN is Associate Professor at School of Education at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. She received her Ph.D. in sociology of education from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2015. Her researches focused on the educational opportunity and choice, academic mobility and knowledge production, and organizational change of world-class universities in the context of globalization. Liyuan’s research has appeared in numerous top journals including Educational Research, Journal of Higher Education, etc. Her most recent book The changing global science system: Academic mobility and knowledge production (2024) explores that the center-periphery structure in global science has a weakening impact on the knowledge production of Chinese scholars. With the increasing openness, the possibility of China rising in the global science system and approaching its center is growing. Her research has been funded by National Social Science Foundation of China, University Grants, etc.
